This blackwork pattern is the first in the Gemstone Ornament Series. A 4" x 4" perfect square, this ornament is based off of the fabulous treasures you would find in the jewelry cabinets of the past. Round cut, emerald cut, baguette cut... these ornaments are for the stitchers who just love their gems and the statement jewelry they adorn. Dripping with sparkle, this pattern screams decadence. Stitch Count: 56 x 56 Size: 4" high x 4" wide when stitched Fabric: 14 count Aida or 28 count Evenweave Thread: Traditionally DMC 310 but please get creative! Needle: A size 26 tapestry needle is perfect but any should work. Chart has large, easy to read print and clear instructions. History: Blackwork is a historical form of counted embroidery work that was typically used to adorn the cuffs and collars of fine clothing. True blackwork was completely reversible so even if the cuff was flipped inside out, it would look the same. This series of patterns uses backstitch and are not designed to be truly reversible – just fun, easy (but intricate) stitching! Enjoy!
